I'm new on the forums,
(Notice this is my first post WoOhoo!)
I have an older version of red hat linux...(9.0)
I have loaded redhat a couple times in the past, but I really haven't had the time to play with it to much.
Now that I have the time...I'm planning on reloading it on one of my machines. However, the drive I would like to load the OS on has server 2000 loaded. What I would like to do is defrag the drive as is, setup a separte partition (this can be done with fips right?) and then load red hat. If need be I can just reformat the drive and start from scratch...If I do that, I'll loose 2 years of my life just backing up all the info stored on the machine.
Any ideas? What I was thinking is ...defrag....use fips..setup new partition...and load linux.
I have setup dual boot with linux and a fat 32 file system....but never a liunx and NTFS. Can I dual boot NTFS with linux?

Yes you can dual boot with NTFS. it doesn't matter what the other partition has on it.

Recommendations:
1) don't be lazy and do a backup if for no other reason than to have a backup
2) ditch RH9 and get something with newer hardware support and updates. I like/suggest Ubuntu, but it should be whatever your comfortable with. If you like RedHat then checkout the Fedora Core project.

I would use a live CD with gparted instead of using fips, but that's only because I've had success using gparted in the past. It's very easy to use and has never caused a problem for me. Someone else will probably know more about this and post in this thread
