Linux "Out of Range Signal"
 

Hey,

I am using grub and when i boot into linux it says "out of range signal, cannot display video mode..". I got to the login screen by pressing ctrl, alt and f1 but I haven't used this in so long I cannot remember my login. Does anyone know how I could possibly bypass the login or change my screen refresh rate or resolution so I can get into the interface??

Even if you could see the GUI, wouldn't you still have to log in with a username and password?

Anyway, you could boot from a CD or DVD (like System Rescue CD), mount your drive and edit the relevant config file. I don't know which file that might be, as you haven't mentioned which distribution you're using.

If you have /etc/X11/xorg.conf, the monitors section is likely what needs editing.

Newer versions of X do not have an xorg.conf file by default, but one can be created.

Are you using a different monitor from the one you had when you installed?
