Linux on Vivobook

Hi

I am considering purchasing an ASUS Vivobook with Windows 10. Will Linux load straight onto it ?

Thank you.

you need to look for answer on the net. That would be much faster (than waiting for someone).
You will find something like this easily: https://www.infofuge.com/asus-vivobook-linux-mint/

The link provided offers only Linux Mint on USB.
Also the linux distro is installed via Rufus multi-boot software.
This may not be the official Linux Mint version.

Please provide details of the hardware specification of your laptop: CPU, GPU, RAM and storage.
Please state which particular Linux distro you want.

It seems the Vivobook series come with Intel CPUs with Windows 10 pre-installed.
Intel works closely with Linux and so the laptop hardware should be fully supported by Linux distros.
I think this is the answer you're looking for.

If are any issues after installation of the Linux distro - they can be resolved by creating a new thread.

@Heathclif36. Thank you. The machine I am considering is a Vivobook with AMD Ryzen 3. RAM: 4GB. 256GB of Storage.

Since it's AMD - you may need to do some tweaking if you want to install Debian.
For Linux Mint and Ubuntu there may not be any need for tweaking after install.

Linux distros can be installed on all desktop hardware just like Windows.
But Linux has the added advantage of being installed on old computers with lower specs which cannot be done with Windows 10.

Ubuntu needs a minimum of 4GB RAM and 25GB of storage.
So on your 256GB hard disk with Windows 10 - you can add several Linux distros.
You can also have a separate Linux distro on USB.

Thank you.

I will probably go with Linux Mint. It only requires 1GB RAM.

Do you happen to know what kernel that version of Mint you want to use has? Ryzen works best with a 5.8+ kernel, although it should function perfectly fine (just not very optimized) with anything 5.4+, and should still WORK with most kernels that are at least 5.0+.
