Question Linux on the HP Pavilion xh575

I will be recieving the said laptop for xmas this year. It's about $2000 from Sams.

Anyways my biggest question is how do I get a driver for the Trident CyberBladeXP videocard contained. I heard a nasty rumor that Trident wasn't going to release a Linux driver. Am I without luck here? My goal is to use this computer for school and work. I'll still be using WIndows, however this will be a system where if I totally mess up the install, or kill off the MBR, or anything it won't affect anything important.

I'm very new to Linux, I want to wade into the pool and get my linux legs. I really want to get the feel for Linux in all it's glory. Will Xwindows work with this card? Will it work well?

ANy information will help me greatly,

Thank you

-Ny

xfree86 version 4.10 supports the cyberblade xp, so it don't think there will be any problems.

Ok here is how I installed on my HP N5430 w/cyberbladeXP vid.
First step: install RH7.2, when you get to the configuring of X, and it asks for video card select "cyber 9525" NOT THE ONE CALLED "CyberbladeXP". And when you get to the point where it asks if you want to login useing text or GUI, choose text. And select 1024x768x16bit. This should be the last step in the install.

Ok after install is compleate login as root. If you installed LILO, then edit /etc/lilo.conf in vi and add the line "vga=791" at the end of the linux section, save it and type lilo to reload lilo to the mbr. Reboot, you should now have a nice looking frame buffer working. When you get back to the login, login as root and edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, add this line in the section for device, where it say something like device "cyber9525" driver "trident" etc...
at the end of that section add ChipSet "cyberbladeXPm" Notice the caps letters in chipset and the card name. Save the file, and you should be good to go as long as you did everything correct. Type startx to start X.

Iv'e used the same procedures to install Slack, Mandy, and RedHat on the same laptop.
