Linux on my emachine

Hello everyone, im tired of using windows i had a computer a while back with gentoo on it, i had my friend help me install it. i was completley lost through most of the installation, so this is my question i want to get a good distro where i can learn A LOT about not only my system and how i can conigure it but i also wanna learn how to really get in depth with linux, i loved gentoo when i had it but i also understand it is a very difficult install, especially for a bigginer. so what would be the best distro to learn all this on. also i have a wireless usb card for my internet and i know it is probably a pain to get wireless working, good thing i like challenges thanks for all your help
