Are you sure you didn't do dual boot and elect not to install grub to boot?

mkrjonnala 11-27-2010 07:58 AM

no i did dual boot and iam not sure about "grub to boot"

thanks for the reply

Ok you do a dual boot .
Do you only use Bootcamp or also refit ?
If you are only using bootcamp which EFI are you using ?
EFI 32 or EFI 64
EFI 32 boots default in 32 bits even if you have 64 bits MAC .
But you can change that .
Anyhow you need a boot loader .

thanks for the reply

i use bootcamp to create linux (windows) partition, how can i create EFI 64 partition with boot camp

ronlau9 12-01-2010 04:27 AM

EFI is provided by MAC .
What I mean is even if you have EFI 64 the MAC by default boots in the 32 bits mode .
IF you have EFI 64 by holding down the numbers 6 and 4 during boot than the MAC will boot in the 64 bits mode
But you can not create a EFI 64 or change EFI 32 with EFI 64

thank u

ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi

i run this command on terminal

then shows like this "firmware-abi" = <"EFI64">

i think my system is support 64 bit

but iam trying to install rhel-server-5.5-x86_64-dvd.iso installed good when i reboot system it is saying insert boot disk

please tell what i do?

ronlau9 12-01-2010 10:53 AM

Yes you're system is intel 64 bits.
But as I stated before you need a boot loader to boot multiple OS .
Visit refit website how to do this .
