Question linux on dell inspiron 4010/oi3

I just bought a dell inspiron 4010/oi3. The laptop comes with no OS , I d like to install linux although i know next to nothing about it. Is it possible to install linux based os for this laptop? I am told that i ll have to install windows 7 ,but still not decided because of the aggressive microsoft policies

Hi,

Welcome to LQ
In general every main distro will work on your laptop.
I would suggest ubuntu.
http://www.ubuntu.com/

You can download the live CD, and see if your hardware is supported.

Kind regards
