linux on asus k53ta-bbr6

I am kind of a dabbler in linux. I used puppy linux for a long time when the gpu on my laptop gave out and windows would crash. now, I have a new laptop, an asus k53ta-bbr6. 4 gigs of ram, and an amd a6-3400m processor and graphics.

I've tried booting puppy linux and ubuntu(with the wubi installer) on this laptop. ubuntu simply gave me a purple screen. puppy only let me use xvesa, couldn't recognize my wifi adapter, and the ethernet adapter didn't work. does anybody know how to get one of these oses working, or, failing that, know one that does?

Did you try installing ubuntu without wubi?
