Linux on an imac ?

I am completely new to Linux and don't know much. I'm thinking about installing Linux on my imac to replace Windows Xp. I have Boot Camp and have partitioned the hard drive 50/50 for OX S and Windows. Can I just install Linux and delete Windows? Does Linux run .exe programs that Windows does? Can I install all my Windows based games in Linux?

linux is a *LOT* more in common with OSX than windows. Linux and OSX are implementations of UNIX standards (OSX is forked from the BSD project, Linux is it's own project). lots of "Linux" software will run directly under OSX (after being compiled for it), but not windows programs. you can run some things using programs like wine and cedega to pretend to be windows but they should be a last resort really.
