Question Linux on a Windows machine

I am familure t with Partition Magic boot partiion tool, but my question is this. I am currently runnning Linux on an old machine with a 4 gb HD and 4 mg video card. The other machine I have is an AMD XP 1300 with 512 memory, 32 mg video card, and two CDrom drives one a DVD and the other my Writer.
I want SAFELY install Linux on the 60 gb drive.

I think I should run PM first then partition say 20GB for Linux on it and leave the rest of my drive NTFS.
My question is that if I do this wil Linux see the partition I want it on?
Thier is some information yeet I do not want to lose on the HD and it is XP.

What are the groups ideas on this?
I know I will burn CD's for backup incase something goes wrong.

Let meknow what you guys & gals think.

I did exactly the same thing on my XP laptop and all went smoothly. Mandrake knew exactly where to live.
Good luck.

DAMN IT!!! (excuse the language) there is no such thing as a Windows machine. There are Apple machines, there are alphaserver, there are proliant but not windows machines... you can call them IBM - compatible machnes.... WINDOWS JUST IS A NAME OF AN UNSTABLE, UNTRUSTABLE, UNCOMFORTABLE, TOO SWEET OPERATING SYSTEM.
