i am having a problem with my gateway laptop. i have tried several linux os (pclinuxos, puppy2.17.1, 3.0, 3.0 retro, knoppix) none of these have sound. i have been told several options but nothing works. and here are the specs of my laptop:

Marvel 88e8038 Wired NIC
Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio
SigmaTel HD audio
Microsoft dotnet 2.0 (via Windows Update)
Omega ATI Mobile Radeon Xpress 200M
7-9_xp32-64_sb_52443 drivers (Southbridge)
5-8-igp_xp_gart_25203 drivers (GART)

i am thinking of trying debian. can anyone based on the info i have provided give me some good advice

what process + Ram are you using?

512mb ram and a Intel celeron m rpcessor 520
