Linux Mint x server...
 

Hi all, I installed Linux mint 15 Mate to my netbook. I then installed the cinnamon desktop edition to spice it up with package manager.

It is very nice and stable. Only one problem. when I click on my user name (I have two users, my wife and I) it takes almost two minutes to load the desktop with either account. It just shows a black screen and the mouse cursor.
Is there a way to fix this? btw it does the same thing when I use Mate desktop.
Also skype seems to have a lot of sound issues, the other person tells me it's choppy, but when I use windows it's clear (I hate windows). so please help me with that too if possible. thank you.

one thing I noticed when the login took a long time on my systems was that the .thumbnails-directory in either home-directory is very big (several 100 MB). If this is the case you should delete it. In order to check this us "du -h ~/.thumbnails" (without the quotes) in a terminal.

Another thing is to check if the login takes as long with a complete new user. You should create a new user and find out if login works faster with the new user.
