linux mint net connection

Hi Guys,I downloaded linux mint and could not get a internet connection at all. I had no problem with unbuntu whatsoever. As an Oldy and a Linux Newbie, I really want to try out the Linux Distros. Hope you can give me a little advice, please. Thank you.

since you gave no any details hard to help you.
1. is this wired or wireless connection?
2. what did you try, what's happened ?
3. is there any error message somewhere?
4. did you check logfiles?
5. any other important detail (like home network, or is it a VM or ????)

Hi,

are you running Mint live or did you install it? - I had an issue where my laptop's wireless card would not work running live but after installation, it worked.

Hi Guys, my mistake as I was not too sure just what to put up. It is a wired connection. Desktop pc. It is home network. The only message was that it did not have an internet connection. I also download and tried to use Zorin and got the same message. Not too sure where to find the log files on Windows 10 or my other working system, Umbuntu.

I actually installed Mint but got the same message.

I live in hope.

Cheers guys.

on [almost] any linux system you can find the logs in the directory /var/log
You need to check if there was anything related (in any file inside that dir).
also you can use the command: dmesg

Again, without details there isn't a lot to say. You say "wired connection" and "desktop pc"....you do realize there are a LOT of different desktop PC's available, right? With a LOT of different network adapters?? Does this PC have a brand/model?? And you don't say what you're connected to, either.

How is it giving you that message??? Are you using network manager?? Have you actually configured networking?

Instead of selecting "Manual", you probably need to select "Automatic"...skip the rest of the steps, and click SAVE.

Internet Connection with Linuz Mint

Hi Guys, I am happy to say I have solved my internet connection problem. I reinstalled Linux Mint 20 from a cd and it went straight on. I also installed Zorin Os and it worked as well. I am so far delighted with the 3 Linux Distros I installed and had them as duel bootup options. As a Oldy of 76 we don't always know just what to put up for information , when asking for help. That I guess is the main reason we ask for help in the first place.

Thank you all for baring with me and giving me a bit of advice. It was much appreciated.

All the best.
