Linux mint freeze cannot find a solution

Hello

I am running linux mint 18.3 cinnamon.

I'm new to linux still and I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem. I've tried everything from uninstalling firefox, deleting cache folders, different nvidia drivers.. Nothing seems to work and I can't notice too much of a pattern.

I'll be using linux mint normally. I notice it happens the most when I use chrome but not always the case. The computer has a slow freeze.. it skips like a lag spike but after two or three little skips where my mouse still works for a second my whole screen is unresponsive forcing a manual hard reboot. I've tried to access the console by hitting ctrl+alt+f1 but that's unresponsive as well. I'm not sure what kind of logs anybody would want from my computer for more information, but please leave me some code links and i'd be more than happy to run them on my computer and post the results. Thank you so much I hope I can finally get this solved.

you can go to /var/log and look for any suspicious line (any kind of error, like hardware related or video related or something else).
Also you might check .xsession-errors in your home dir. You can try to wait, probably it will work again.
Also probably you can tell us how it was installed, if it worked a week before or two, if something has been changed, or any additional info which might be useful.

It is dualbooted with grub2 with windows 7. My windows 7 has no problems completely stable. I notice the issues the most when my hardware is pushed harder. which would explain why it happens most often with chrome running... I managed to update the OS fine. But I've reinstalled multiple versions of linux mint and I seem to have the same kind of freezing as long as I can remember.

Here are some logs on my hardware and what not

That is a huge problem that I have on my windows boot. My laptop overheats very easily. Gaming without a fan directly on the laptop is impossible. But i'm not doing anything that huge on linux mint. the laptop is rather cool right now compared to normal probably around 140 F. It is very difficult for me to determine if my problem has been solved due to the crashes occurring at random times. I was importing an ova file for kali linux onto virtualbox the last time it crashed on me, this time it went through okay, no crash yet. The timing is very random.

probably you need to clean your laptop. Inside.

Is the fact Cinnamon requires a compositor to even run (except in software mode) possibly causing the OP's issue? I wonder if the OP would be better off running Xfce4 or Mate` without compositor turned on?

If it is of any help, I had a similar issue with Mint 18.3 Cinnamon on two separate PC's (installed from same media)
Solved by switching to XFCE

Thank you all for your suggestions so far. Maybe it is a problem with Cinnamon, It sucks because the reason I love mint soo much is because of Cinnamon. Without Cinnamon, i'm not even sure which linux distro i'd like to use, If i'm not using Cinnamon why use mint when there are so many other options out there. I know this is off topic some, but could I get some distro reccomendations in case there is something? If not i'll just download XFCE mint and see if I like that.

you can try to boot a live CD too - to check if that works and if you like that distro.

If you are after speed and simplicity - you will love XFCE. If you are after some more "eye-candy" (but newbie-friendly) - maybe check out Zorin or an interesting one called Robolinux...
