I have to install a new os and or trouble shoot to see if the vid card is bad all without a screen or a keyboard.

your video card isn't bad.

how did we come to this now? weren't you just going to reinstall?
can you see the BIOS screen or whatever first comes up when you start your computer?
the thing that comes up before linux even starts?
if yes, then you can use nomodeset, too.
nomodeset is a kernel command line option you add during early boot.
it temporarily disables all specialised graphic drivers.
i thought my search result documented well how to do that, but at a closer glance they weren't so good. try this instead (PS: mint is 99% ubuntu).

My PC, when turned on shows a power light on the tower, 3 red decorative lights where the fans are. Fans are no longer spinning, and the screen says no signal.

I ruled out the screen or the HDMI cable as being bad after hooking them up to another PC and testing them out.

Keyboard and mouse light up also. They're plugged into the back of the tower.

Without a signal, it wouldn't matter if I could access BIOS or not.

Folks suggested I unplug the AMD card and plug my monitor into the motherboard via the HDMI port on the back that connects to the motherboard.

I did that yesterday and I still have no signal bouncing around my screen.

Id be happy to reinstall the OS if I could see. Not sure what to do next...

I feel like I must be very dumb, or possibly crazy. Lol.

Everyone keeps telling me to access the BIOS, and I'm looking at a tower with no monitor. Like, how???

Are your CPU/RAM/PSU/GPU functioning?
This is looking like some major hardware problem.

Yeah, I agree. It feels bigger than a little bad kernel update, but I was hoping I had no visuals bc of the AMD card. I also saw online there were many cases of sudden hardware failure on new Cyberpower brand machines.

As for your question, how would I check that? I'd like to see for sure. Right now I'm just guessing. Bc the usb ports are talking, it must not be completely dead. Otherwise the keyboard and mouse would be dead. Yeah?

If USB (keyboard & mouse are working) it looks good for the motherboard & possibly PSU.
Have you had a look inside to check for loose connections etc

With the covers off, do the fans start, even briefly, when you press the power-on button?

Ok, well. I just did a double check and since unplugging the AMD card:

- All fans are running again
- Keyboard and Mouse remain lighting and are presumed alive.
- Monitor still not receiving anything from the tower.

Not sure where the connections are, but everything appears in tact at first glance.

Does your PSU supply enough power for the graphics card - possibly with multiple power connections if its a high-end card?

It might be worth sticking a basic nVidia card in - perhaps Amazon will send you one that you can send back after "testing" it?
I have a "GeForce GT 730" which is old but easily sufficient for HD Video etc. Think it cost about £30.

Well, I definitely will have to buy what I can afford if I end up needing to replace the graphics card, so it may end up being a basic card.

But the card I have came pre-installed. This is just a Cyberpower PC purchased off Amazon as advertised. Nothing upgraded or customized, so shouldn't the power adapter be able to handle it?

The card and PC were running fine out of the box on Windows 10. After installing Linux Mint there was a flicker. A few days after that I had to start hard resetting every morning when it wouldn't wake up from sleep. (time on screen still from when it entered sleep mode)

After that is when I updated the kernel manually and reset. Having to hard reset in the middle of rebooting.

It has shown no screen since then.

ok, if you can't even get into bios, then it cannot be a linux problem.

after pulling the GPU, you should be able to use the intel chip's integrated graphics. does the mobo not have its own monitor connector (DVI, HDMI, hell maybe even VGA)?

Sorry to say that but the driver doesn't work anymore, you'll have to install another working version of the drivers for your OS! Good luck!

KIOPRET, you have been doing this for a while now:
vague, bordering on meaningless, and completely unhelpful posts that show that you did not grasp the topic of the thread, or at the very least did not read much of it.
this (and many similar of your posts) does not add any value to the thread.

in its accumulation, this is some sort of spamming/trolling, hence reported.

we covered drivers long ago and have moved way beyond that. please read ALL of the thread, and take a while to digest it, too, before posting.
thanks.

Ah, now we're getting to my big fear. Ok, with the GPU unplugged and my HDMI plugged directly into the only HDMI slot on the motherboard... nothing. It still acts like the monitor is getting no input. This is making me think the mobo is dead, but it can't be dead bc the fans and lights are all on and the usb keyboard and mouse are responsive. Their lights are, anyway. Num Lock comes on every time I power up and I turn it off just to see if it's responding and it stays off.

Maybe that's all insignificant and the mobo IS dead. But yeah, no pic even when plugged into the HDMI port on the motherboard.

...would it make a difference if I only just unplugged the GPU from power? I didn't fully remove it.

I would totally remove the GPU - what does the sticker on your PSU claim for its power rating?
Try the motherboards built-in video card again.
