Linux mint 17.1 can't enable wifi

Hi All,
I recently installed Linux Mint 17.1 The OS has disabled my wifi card. I had a spare card i know is good, so changed out the wifi card. linux still only sees my ethernet card. The wifi card is an intel wifi 1000. Being new to Linux I'm a little stumped. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

You need to install the firmware package for you wifi adapter. Look at 'lspci' and which adapter you have. Then, install the firmware package from the distro repos.

Out of interest, can I ask why you only installed Mint 17.1?

The latest version of Mint is 19.

The key bit of information is what wireless chipset your system is using.

Running the command lspci in a terminal should provide that information. You may need to run the command as root. It would also help to know make/model of the computer.
