Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon & Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 4 Network not recognized
Seems like a lot of folks are having this issue. Sometimes with the non operating USB mouse and keyboard. I have been able to finally get the mouse and keyboard working but the network device is still not recognized.
I have the most current bios (F2).
I have tried PCI and USB nics to no avail.
Many boards are suggesting the motherboard will not support Linux. I have a lot invested in this rig and do not want to make into a frizzbe. Gigabyte support on Linux is nonexistant.
If there is a modern 990FX motherboard that is know to work well please advise.
I have been unable to find out which Realtek chip is used.
I do not know how to add a driver to the installation iso should I ever find one that might work.
My main purpose in building this rig is to learn Linux and use multiple CPU cores and GPUs for simulations. I chose Mint as I hate command line entry (my typing does not allow me to get through long commands without error) and I can never remember such obtuse stuff.
I have tried several times over the years to get started with Linux and am always blocked by such hiccups as this.
Help!
Thanks in advance,
Lew
