Edit /etc/default/grub file and change the following lines:

Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480
in such manner:

Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="vga=791"
GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768
Then use the following commands: update-grub2 and grub-install /dev/sda. Finally restart the system.

Hi,
I have updated as you advise but screen resolution is still at 800x600,refresh rate at 0 and rotation is normal as before.Can't select 1024x768.Below is the updated grub.Pls see if I have put correctly.

# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="vga=791"
GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768

# Uncomment to enable BadRAM filtering, modify to suit your needs
# This works with Linux (no patch required) and with any kernel that obtains
# the memory map information from GRUB (GNU Mach, kernel of FreeBSD ...)
#GRUB_BADRAM="0x01234567,0xfefefefe,0x89abcdef,0xefefefef"

# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console

# The resolution used on graphical terminal
# note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
# you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo'
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

# Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux
#GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true

# Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu entries
#GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY="true"

# Uncomment to get a beep at grub start
#GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 1"

Thank you.

Well, I'm not regular Mint user. My first advice concerns splash screen and boot procedures.

To change screen resolution in X Window open Mint's Control Center | Hardware | Monitors window and use Resolution option to select 1024x768 mode.

The other method is to put in /etc/X11 directory xorg.conf file including the following section:

Code:
Section "screen"
    Identifier "screen0"
    Device "Videocard0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
        Viewport 0 0
        Depth 24
        Modes "1024x768" "800x600"
    EndSubSection
EndSection

If you have issues with your resolution settings, it would be a good idea to tell us what video card and which driver you are using.

Have just reinstall Linux Mint 9 to the system.I will retry the installation of Mint 10 and revert back on the Xorg log file.Meanwhile while fiddling with the screen resolution,I did some trial and error test.

-Install ubuntu 10.10 onto the system but the screen resolution problem is the same as Mint 10
-Install Linux Mint 10 onto the system(screen resolution still cannot solve),did an update for Mint 10.After that the whole system cannot work.Restarting the system only allow me to select Mint 10, Mint 10 recovery mode, memtest and some others(Sorry I forget some).
-Install ARandR according to attach link http://www.liberiangeek.net/2010/12/...eerkat-arandr/into ubuntu 10.10 but still cannot work.Unable to select screen resolution,refresh rate,hertz.

Update Xorg.0.log file(Sorry for the long log file)

Your X11 seem to have automatically chosen the fbdev driver instead of the i810 (which is the optimal one for your Intel 82845GL integrated video chipset). You should use aptitude to see if the i810 driver package is installed and if it isn't, install it through aptitude.
