Linux login prompt name ?


I have installed feather linux on my hard drive power up my laptop, and before booting I get a login prompt. I set the passwords, but don't know any login name - can someone help ?

Try root.
I would however suggest to create a regular user once logged in as root.

yes, i tried root and it gives me a prompt something like root$# what command boots up the system from here ?

Feather Linux is discontinued since 2005, I wouldn't recommend to use it at all. If you want something similar you can try Tinycore, Slitaz or Puppy. Some people would recommend DSL, but it is also discontinued since 2008, so I won't recommend that.

It's already booted, just use the command line. It's a good idea to create a new user account other than root using the adduser command, so that you can't mess up your system. If you have X installed, you can probably start the GUI using the "startx" command.

But I agree with the above post, don't use unsupported distros.
