Exclamation linux lite - won't start

I have an acer aspire one with linpus linux on it.
the other day, i was using "live update", and at some point it went "blackscreen". i didnt understand why, because i have set it never go "idle" or on screensaver. i tried to "wake up" the system but without any luck. and i had the power cord plugged in, so it didnt ran out of power. so i shut it down and tried to boot up. tried to...
everything went right until the point where i belive that the x-session should start. and i get a black screen with a white cross in center, and thats it. it doesnt go any further than that point.
what do i do?

some wise man, please help me!

Can you use <Ctrl><Alt><F6> or <Ctrl><Alt><F1>?

What does the screen say when you press those keys?

I'd try to format and reinstall. Doing so will wipe out any data that was on the SD.

In case there wasn't a cd that came with the system, the install iso seems to be downloadable from the linpus website: http://www.linpus.com/
Download it and burn it on a dvd.

If there's valuable data on your hard drive, I'd try to concentrate on trying to copy that off the computer.

If you have some prior experience with command lines and linux live CDs you can try to make linpus boot in a non-graphical environment to see if you can find out where the problem lies.
I'm not able (read: willing) to assist a newbie through the process of booting a live cd, mounting a hard drive, and editing system files. Not on a system that I'm not familiar with.

Maybe someone else on this forum will, but that still doesn't guarantee you wouldn't need to reinstall.

well, the aspire one has no cd drive.
but i am familiar with using linux cmmand lines,(i'd use to run linux gentoo about a year ago, but i do still consider myself a newb because i'm not feeling 100% confident with my knowledge of the system yet. ) is it possible to make a re-installation of linpus lite from a usb flash device?

display the contents of the linpus lite iso and i can tell you how to put it on usb-
Extract the iso to a folder, or mount it and cp the contents to a folder....
then list here the folder/files layout or a screenshot of the folder....

well, i have now fetched the linpus lite ISO. if i mount it, it comes out to give me these files: copying, GPL, license, livecd.sgn, rd-base.img(winrar archive), readme, trans.tbl and the following folders:base, boot, data, tools.
as for now, i don't have time to waste, as i have homework to do

but i will return again as soon i have time, possibly in the morning, or perhaps later on the day. if you want me to list all of the content including subfolders, and so on - do PLEASE say so.

thx so far!
