Linux - Linpus Lite Complete Newbie!! - Applications install

Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to the world of Linux - having spent all my time using windows. I purchased an Aspire One a150 and am a little confused.

1. How do i install applications, it's not as simple as downloading an exe file and installing as on windows.
2. Could anyone recommend a CD/DVD writing application that I can install.

I would like to give Linux a chance, rather than dismiss off hand and install XP so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Check out hack number one to enable advanced mode on Linpus Lite so you can get to the add remove programs menu,

A cd burning app, theres no burner in that machine..so you must have an external burner I'm guessing ?

First off, welcome to the world of Linux.

Follow the steps here to get access to the Fedora repos. You will find the CD/DVD software you need here.
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/09...pire_one_tips/

Acer Europe also has updated software here:
ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/netbook/aspi...x/application/

Each zip file has a Read Me doc that explains what you will need to do for each program. Get Firefox 3 from here. It won't hose your email and rss programs already installed. Skype is also available from here.

Best of luck.

thanks for the replies farslayer and roninchef.

I'll give it a try today and hopefully can get used to it all.
