Linux just freezes

Hey guys, so glad to join your world of linux.
Having some issues though with Linux distros.
I 've decided to install Linux along with winXP and Win7 which are allready installed on my pc.
But here's the thing:
I tried to install LinuxMint 10.10 or Ubuntu or Fedora 14 on the same HDD with the other OS's but in a different partition.
After the installation, i 'm starting up with the Linux to start working with it, but after a while everything just freezes. No mouse move, no keyboard response. Only a hard reboot will work.

Can anyone pleeeeease tell me how can i fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Does it happen in a particular situacion or is it aleatory? It could be a memory problem. Check it with memtest86+ or similar software.

Thanks for your immediate response guys.
This happens when i install Ubuntu 10.10 and it also happens on LinuxMint "Julia" and Fedora 14.
Sometimes it just freezes even during the installation. If i manage to install it, after i log into the Linux system
it freezes everything after 1-5 minutes.
I haven't tried another distro because i was so discouraged.

Ram is absolutely flawless (have checked it)
This has never happend neither in WinXP nor in Win7

Brand new machine:
Intel core i7 860
Asus P7P55D EVO
ATI Sapphire HD4870 Vapor-x 2 GB
Western Digital Caviar green 750 GB
4 GB Kingston at 1333 MHz

One year with this machine and up until now i haven't got any problems with windows at all.

Thanks in advance!

How many primary partitions are your windows installations taking?
You may have to partition different way.

i would look at your partitions
they might be a bit "off" is the easiest way to put it
loginto one linux's and run this command
su -
--- root password when asked ---
fdisk -l
and copy/past the info here
-- or --
to make a text document of that output
su -
fdisk -l > /fdisk.txt
then open the file /fdisk.txt
