I don't use windows either. IT BORES ME TO DEATH. I even hate fixing my family's and friend's windows computers.

The web developer needs to use better fonts with higher contrast to stand out against the dark background. It's almost impossible to read.

you know, compares to BSD distro, Linux is easy enough and funny enough, Ubuntu's Unity DE looks really nice!!!

That test was pretty awesome. I loved that the first question was "programmed a calculator in math class". That was my livelihood in highschool. Not only would I make up and program my own games, I would transfer them to other students' calculators. I would also program in the equations and formulas to solve math/science problems for tests. It might be considered cheating, but I figured that if I knew the problems and equations well enough to write a program in my calculator to solve them, then that was good enough.

Alas, I only scored a 29%, but I'm alright with that.

to some extent you are right but nowadays there are too many flavours which are close to windows interface.

I remember Chemistry, my freshman year of college ... they wouldn't let us use calculators "because they were too hard to get and too expensive for some students to afford". So we had to use slide rules. I wish I still had that old multi scale bamboo slide rule.

About 1972 I rode my motorcycle across two southern states to Houston, TX overnight to arrive in time for an FCC First Class Radiotelephone license exam. I had a nixie-tube "calculator" but they would not allow their use! I also had a slide rule but it had to be inspected and approved to make sure it did not have any "special purpose" scales...

A couple of years later I got my first RPN with real scientific functions - it was like magic!

but i was really the first gen. to NOT use them
started HS in 1981

how many "young folk" today would call a slide rule "TOO HARD" or "Too complicated"

if one was a MS Windows "power user" then it is rather simple to learn

Since my iPhone broke I am back on the ordinary undestructable Nokia phone-only and the HP 11C back in my shirt pocket. I have a newer one (I think it is the 42S) but I don't like it as much.

When I was in Accra, Ghana in a shop selling equipment for surveyors they had 3 brand new Castell slide rules for sale. Unfortunately they asked $50 for one. I could bargain the price down to $35, but not lower. For $25 I would have bought it.

I am glad to hear there are people older than I using Linux without trouble. I finally got Mint 15 MATE loaded (blowing up VISTA along the way, but no loss) and am now working my way through a couple of tutorials. When there are problems with Mint, however, it seems a knowledge of the command line is necessary, at least enough to understand the people who are trying to help me
