linux is greatest but cannot mount my CD

Please help! Finally I decided to give up with MSWindows and I installed Linux from cd rom(suse 8.0). Simply ....great! Installation was easiest and successfull except for my CD rom drive(mitsumi fx4010m)which seems to be recognised but it doesn't work: you can see it listed as available hardware but if you put any cd in it and click the icon an error message appears: impossible to mount....Mount:no medium found.I even opened the pc to check everything was ok.....how can I solve this problem?

Thanks

Michele

What type of cd are you trying to mount? Music, data?

apicellamichele 09-12-2002 09:03 AM

it does with every type of cd, even the suse linux ones, if you insert a cd yu hear the noise normally cd rom does when a CD is damaged and cannot be read

is this a cd/dvd or cd/burner combo drive?

Have you tried changing to root and explicitely mounting the device?
su root
*enter root's password*
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

See what it comes up with...
