Linux Installer Not Working

Hello All,

I used to have a problem installing a package when I run the following as root

./DBConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin, I would get the following error:

Quote:
Preparing to install...
Extracting the JRE from the installer archive...
Unpacking the JRE...

gzip: /tmp/install.dir.4004/Linux/resource/vm.tar.Z: not in gzip format
/tmp/install.dir.4004/Linux/resource/vm.tar.Z: not in compressed format

gzip: /tmp/install.dir.4004/Linux/resource/vm.tar.Z: not in gzip format
The included VM could not be uncompressed (GZIP/UNCOMPRESS). Please try to
download the installer again and make sure that you download using 'binary'
mode. Please do not attempt to install this currently downloaded copy.
I searched for solutions (and a number of kind guys from this forum tried to help) and I came across the following link:

I tried the solution and after running the following command:

Code:
sed -i "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/" DBConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin
I ran:

sudo sh DBConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin and I got the following error:

Quote:
[root@localhost Linux]# sudo sh DBConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin
: command not found0_0_R5.bin: line 2:
: command not found0_0_R5.bin: line 30:
: command not found0_0_R5.bin: line 34:
Preparing to install...
: command not found0_0_R5.bin: line 36:
'BConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin: line 88: syntax error near unexpected token `{
'BConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin: line 88: ` POSIX_XPG_DF_CMD() {
[root@localhost Linux]# sed -i "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNE

Can someone please assist in trying to fix this issue?

Cheers

Carlton

This could be a problem with unzipping a tar.gz format file. Such tar with zipped files should be opened using:
Code:
tar -zxvf <file.tar.gz>
Could you once check your installer script i.e. DBConfig_RHEL_SAM_10_0_R5.bin or share it's content, then perhaps people could help you?

Hi Shivaa,

I'm not sure what tar.gz installer is trying to unzip?

The trailing Z here
Code:
/tmp/install.dir.4004/Linux/resource/vm.tar.Z
imples that it was compressed using the compress utility http://linux.die.net/man/1/compress not gzip. As per that page use 'uncompress ...'
compress is more often used on eg Solaris, but its available for Linux also.
