Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hello all, thanks for taking a look at this, I spent all of yesterday, and then stayed up til almost 3am trying to figure this thing out on my own and I have finally decided it's time to get help, before I was another day.
A quick background, for the past few months I've been running Windows 8/Ubuntu dual boot flawlessly. Windows started acting and constantly freezing, after looking into that for a week or so, I decided I am just going to go with Linux. However, I wanted to try Linux Mint instead of Ubuntu. I installed from Live CD (which I am typing this to you on), formatting my SSD (which Windows was on) and mounting linux on that. I installed GRUB, but when I start up computer, my old Ubuntu GRUB shows up with Windows 8 and Ubuntu, meaning I cannot access Mint unless on the Live CD.
Anyone have any idea why my Linux Mint GRUB isn't showing up? Thanks in advance.
Edit: Ubuntu was not on the SSD, it was on my 1TB HDD
Great, seems to work as I am on Mint now and am no longer running from the Live CD. I considered that option last night, but my only problem is, since I have installed Mint, Ubuntu isn't working properly (I installed Mint on a completely separate hard drive than I did Ubuntu). It would take a long time to get to the login screen, and when it finally did, and I typed in my password, it would just show the purple background with nothing on it, but I managed to open up the terminal and do what you said.
With that though, if I want to get rid of Ubuntu, and just have Mint on my machine, will I have to reinstall everything, as GRUB is currently in Ubuntu?
Also, does this mean every time I want to configure Grub I have to go into Ubuntu? What is the best way about making Mint my default OS, where I can do all that kind of stuff in there?
