Linux Installation / Setup

HELP! Ok, i downloaded SlackWare Linux, burned it using Nero and popped it in the cd tray. Now when i run Virtual Machine Workshop and creat a new virtual machine and run it, it reads the linux disk and boots up to the installation screen. After that i try selecting the source etc and it asks me to partition the hd which i though VMWare did for me. I am deperate to get this working as i have been at it by myself now for a couple days. If you guys could help enough that i could get it running, i'd be in debt. Thank you very much! - Which programs should i use to run it or 'dual boot it' and how should i partition it? - Thanks for any help you can provide - EnSanity

What hardware are you running on? From your terminology I would guess that it is one of IBM's main frames.

Cool down mate :)

VMWare doesn't create partitions, it creates a
file that -towards the virtual machine- acts as a
hard-drive. Or at least that was the case with all
the vmware-versions that I have seen so far.
Now, if you boot that virtual machine of the CDROM
you should see a hard-disk the size of the file
you told VMware to allocate for the VM.

So, before running slack's setup, do a
fdisk -l /dev/hda
and verify it's the right size (virtual HDD/VMware's file).

Then run the above command without the -l (note, it's
a small L)

Create a swap partition (how much RAM does the box have?)
and a second partition for your linux-filesystem.

Then run setup and enjoy! :}

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: Really, it should be the other way round ;)
mickymouse's OS should run in the VM :D

hrm, i created an actual partition with partition magic. its the f: drive now, 10gb. i run my VM and type in cfdisk /dev/hbn or cfdisk /dev/hdb and i get a fatal error saying it cant open it. Whats up with this? I also tried booting my computer from the disc but it wouldnt let me ;\ HELPHELP!
