please attach here output of dmesg and /or content of /var/log/messages

also where did you get your nvidia drivers? are they Nvidia owned or opensource? if nvidia owned: did you run nvidia-xconfig ? also post here your /boot/grub/grub.conf (or menu.lst dont remember what was in ubuntu)

when I run nvidia-xconfig I get this error

(VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Undefined Device "(null)" referenced by Screen "Default Screen".)

I attached the dmesg output(new.txt) and also the xconfig file of nvidia(new2.txt) and the grub.cfg (new3.txt)

try linux mint?

Hello spoorthi,

I'd recommend to try the Ubuntu or Mint Live-CD or DVD and find out if everything is working. It would be good if you could issue the command
Code:

sudo lspci
and
Code:

lsmod
in a terminal when the Live-CD is booted and save the output anywhere. It will be a great help if you post the output of the commands here.
