linux install

I'm trying to install linux on my e-machines t1100. I recently put in an 80GB WD HDD, and reinstalled winxp on it. I used Partition Magic to resize the partition, and tried to install RedHat 8.0, and Lycoris Desktop/LX (at seperate times). Both error out when the installer tries to write the installation stuff to the disk. It formats the partition fine though, so I know it CAN write to the disk. Any suggestions?

What is the installation stuff? Do you mean you get through the installer and when it goes to install the packages it errors out or do you mean you can't even get to a GUI installer?

I go through the whole installer, and when it gets to installing packages, it does it's thing, and then says "preparing to install", then the screen goes blank, and it writes out this:

(Anaconda:94) : GnomeCanvas-Critical ** : file gnome_canvas_paths_def.c:line1142
(gnome_canavas_path_def_any_closed):assertion 'path!+NULL' failed.
installer exited abnormally
yada
yada
yada
you can safely reboot your system (or something like that)

In case you got here by searching

for a fedora core 3 installer problem "Installer exited abnormaly"

I had this problem as well but fixed it by changing my IDE card.

I replied to a bug in which there is further details:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=147953

Kind Regards
