Linux in thumb drive

I'm Linux newbie and would like to put some simple Linux to USB stick.

I use currently Intel Mac/Leopard.

What do you recommend. I only need it to get data from one gadget now and then. It's not Mac compatible.

Have a look on www.distrowatch.com, but from memory, puppy linux has an option to install on a usb stick

Does your Mac support boot from USB? If it does then you can try to install linux on your USB drive with minimum package. My concern is whether your USB drive can be seen during installation. Why don't you give it a try and let us know?

I cant get pendrivelinux08.com to open. Did you mean pendrivelinux.com?

My current usb drive is 0.5 GB, so i'm not sure does it fit to it, maybe i need to buy new one.

This page lists some Linuxes for USB drives:
http://distrowatch.com/search.php?ca...&status=Active

But i'm not sure what to select in "Architecture" popup-menu.

Thanks

Hi Sarah,

First plug-in your pen drive to find out..?what drive letter you are getting?

Once you know this, when you reboot open your BIOS to see if it will let you switch to the above drive letter. If does, you will need to put it first when you are ready to boot from the pen drive at that time.

Second, you right about the WEB address just remove the '08 in the string. SORRY about that!! my download of pendrivelinux08.zip (that's where the '08 came from) is only 493.4mb
which just might work...

Lastly, Browse thru the links for smaller foot prints of linux...like {link: SuperTalent 512MB Flash Memory Slim Flash Drive USB 2.0 SupertTalent} from [page: SUSE to a USB flash drive] found @ the www.pendrivelinux.com

Hope this may help you out..!! :)Dandy1
