Question linux graphics without X?

can linux get into graphics mode without X? i ask this because i am looking for small proggies (500 k max) to run in floppy linuxes (like tomsrtbt). i am transitioning from DOS to linux and i thought i'd learn the command line first to better understand linux concepts. so right now i just boot off with tomsrtbt or hal91 and play around the console but i am running out of things to do other than make/remove/list files/folders.

to see what i mean here are links to some DOS programs:

LxPic v7.0 - DOS commandline picture viewer (35kb!)

PhotoDex SEA 1.3 - DOS picture viewer with its own menu

also if you know of any other smallish programs (tetris, .WAV recorder/player) please let me know.

thanks!

you just want a framebuffer image viewer? ahh that's easy there's plenty around, like fbi, fbv or fbview. i usually watch any films or tv in a framebuffer using mplayer and fbtv respectivly, works great, and is more stablei reckon, frees up a lot of memory too IF you need it. there are loads of console programs for sound too wavplay mpg123 etc...

I saw some program with a bi gui entirely in a framebuffer or something, i'll put a link here if i can remember what it did or what it was called...
