Linux for tablets

Any one have any realistic idea when a version of linux will be present in a commercially available tablet. I am not talking about rooting anything and I know android is essentially a unix based system. I just want a tablet that works as well as my ubuntu laptop.

every android tablet out there is running Linux as is the Nook as it is basically a customized android tablet. Android is NOT BASICALLY LInux, it IS Linux.

OK, maybe I need to modify my question. When is a ubuntu or mint tablet going to be available? I would guess from the first answer never.

Awhile back there was a GNU/Linux tablet called KDE Active Plasma II, but I think it has been discontinue.

If you really want a GNU/linux tablet the only way most will do is to install an ARM based distro and hope the process goes smoothly.

Ubuntu Tablet

Ubuntu are seeking tablet manufacturers to use Ubuntu.

There's a link at the bottom of this page where you can ask to be emailed of any developments.

I read recently in a Linux Magazine that KDE is in fact coming out with the "kde Tablet"!!! Super F$^%&* EXCITED!! I read it is in BETA, and is only being sold for testing purposes.

Found it! is the "Vivaldi" - The KDE Plasma Tablet, found in Linux Format UK August 2012. I also read Samsung partnered with the Linux Foundation last year!!
