linux for memory stick

my laptop has not got a cd writer so is there a linux
suitable for loading on a 256mb memory stick.
I look forward to any advice.

Well i am a newbie my self so i am not really sure about my answer. But i think that there is a linux distro "Damn Small Linux" that might suit your purpose. I am assuming you want a small enough OS that you can use from your USB drive. Check out that threads relating to Damn Small Linux or go to distrowatch for more information on it
