Linux File System

Ok, Could someone point me to an article that explains the logic behind all the different dir's in Linux? Like why have etc, var, and lib.... Or could some just explain how it works?

there are plenty more if you google "linux filesystem" or something of the like.

thanks! I was just wondering why the file system wasn't like windows. I find windows way very logical. So I figured that linux must have some kind of logic in it. I just couldn't figure it out.

It is tricky at first. Once you do some reading and figure it out you will realize it is very logical.
