Linux error- Cannnot detect boost library

Hey Guys,

I am new to linux and trying to install one software and it is constantly throwing me an error eventhough I downloaded and latest version of boost and tryed to add it to its path:

The error is: "We could not detect the boost library(version1.38 or higher). If you have a stages boost library(still not installed) please specify $boost_root in your envireonment and do not give a PATH to --with-bost option. IF you are sure you have boost installed, then check 7youe version number looking in<boost/version.hpp>"

I think I am doing some silly mistake but don't know what?

Thank you.

Welcome to LQ.
I am new to linux and trying to install one software
Which software ? ?

It would be nice, if you could tell a few more details.
Which OS are you using ? Like Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, Fedora 12,
CentOS 5.4, etc. etc.
Downloading system libraries like boost is not the Linux
way to do it. You are supposed to install libraries with
your "Package Manager" : 'Add / Remove Software' or with
the connected command ...
= yum install, apt-get install, zypper in , etc.

So how did you install boost ? Say you installed the binary
package boost, you may be missing boost-devel, which are the
files needed to build other software with boost.
Installing boost manually with 'make' && # make install
requires some trics to make it visible.
..... ..
