Linux + DSL = no internet... hmmmmm

When at school, my buddies and I had 4 computers hooked up to a hub. So I just moved home, and when I plug the DSL cable into my computer, I can't connect.

I'm sure it has something to do with my computer looking for a router (I know at the old place the router was 10.0.0.0 and my particular computer was 10.0.0.4) or something IP related. Unfortunately, I don't know much about IP addresses, and I certainly don't know how to set mine properly.

I've searched around the forums for a tutorial - I'm *sure* I'm not the only new guy who has this problem - but the relevent guide must be under some title featuring unfamiliar (to me) acronyms.

I'm afraid I can't post my etc/fstab/interfaces (something like that) here because, well, my computer's at home and the internet doesn't work.

Any help (just pointing out a relevent guide) would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

-Jake

PS - I'm running Debian, and a buddy pointed me towards "pump," but it looks like either my system doesn't have pump or I'm not doing it properly.

Post /etc/resolv.conf
You may not be able to get a connection because you are using the old resolv.conf
Boot up knoppix and see if you can get it working and post what happened. see if this helps;

So you just plug the ADSL network cable into your pc? Did you configure ppp interface? Is your ADSL modem like a router? Or the Sympatico Speedtouch kind?

Try this command from terminal as su:
dhcpcd

Most adsl providers in North America use dhcp...this should connect you easily
in most instances.
