Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

You might like Ubuntu MATE which is a fork of Gnome 2.

What is your specific use case? Do you like only the UI or do need an other distro as ubuntu?

nowy,

Welcome to LQ.

Either Ubuntu 16.04 MATE or Linux Mint 18.3 MATE would be suitable.

That would definitely be Mate: not identical to Gnome 2, but pretty close. In my (slightly limited) experience, Mint is a little more reliable and there's certainly a larger user community with Mint Mate than with Ubuntu Mate.
