Linux Distro For 1GB RAM
 

I am looking for some recommendations for a Linux distribution that supports copy to ram (or toram).

My computer has 1GB of RAM. I've tried Puppy Linux and didn't like it to much and DSL isn't supported anymore.

Any other suggestions of a Linux version that could meet my need. I really only need a browser and the ability to load a couple of small apps. No need for OpenOffice etc.

There are not many distros that run totally in RAM, Slitaz and Tinycore come to my mind.

Tinycore runs in Ram and 1GB is far more than you'll need with it.

Slax can be used with toram with about 320MB, and comes with a lot more software pre-installed than tinycore does (and can be customized with modules) and will probably have easier wireless setup and driver support and such. Though it is a Live distro, I don't know how well it does installing to the hard drive as I've never tried it, and I have never seen it used as anything but a live distro. So I can't really recommend it if you're looking for something to actually put on this machine's hard disk.

I have ScientificLinux 6.1 running just fine on a old p4 with 1 gig ram
the Nvidia gforce2 card IS NOT supported by nvidia but the nouveau driver works fine

SL6.1 doesn't support copy to RAM, AFAIK.

System Rescue has a toram option at boot. It comes with Firefox, a text editor, and a terminal emulator (as well as the rescue stuff, of course).

knoppix uses a toram, others out there have a copy2ram option,I forget the other name used, like ramboost or something.

arch, some mandrakes, slax, mcnlive, pclinuxos.
