Linux Day To Day Job?
 

Ok Im totally new to Linux but one day Ill say what my signature says. The question ia as a Linux Administrator, what are your roles when you go to work?

Well, it somehow depends on what you have to administrate. One box only used to play games or hundreds of servers and clients on a network, with real time constraints and a high level of security as well as availability requested ?

No offense, but that's like asking "how high is up"......this all depends on the environment.

Small office? You could be doing everything from desktop support, networking, upgrades, backups, and everything in between. Larger environment? Maybe different departments for all of those tasks, and you'll just have to babysit servers.

A basic description is: KEEP THE SERVERS RUNNING, 24/7/365. No matter what it takes. You're the admin...this means keeping up with the OS updates, software updates, implementing changes, fixing hardware, and diagnosing problems. What you use to do this is up to you...YOU will be the admin, so you're in the drivers seat. Get very familiar with performance monitoring tools (disk, network, CPU/memory)...they will be your best friends. :)

OK. I thought that it was very hard because of the the million n one commands that linux has. I love the matrix view of linux but never knew what the job is like being around a linux.
