I'm looking for a DVD burner that will work with Linux (specifically Fedora 7). I also need it to have a SATA connection.
I tried a liteon but it would not burn anything usable. I guess I should have taken seriously its requirement of WinXP.
I know there is this MMC3 standard out there that "newer" burners theoretically all support. However given my experience with this last burner, I'm not going to fall for that lie again. I want something known to work with Linux and says so on the box.
Many hardware vendors are wary of providing explicit support for Linux machines. However, that doesn't mean they won't work. Check out the Hardware Compatability List (HCL) for a list of devices known to run on Linux machines.
Distribution: RHEL 4 and up, CentOS 5.x, Fedora Core 5 and up, Ubuntu 8 and up

If you go to Memory Express you can get a LG DVD writer and it works, SATA as well around $45 CAN I think. I guess you can't go there is you aren't from Canada, Alberta, Calgary but you should be able to find that at lots of places, even order it online from somewhere.
