Linux compatable printers

I am looking for a low priced printer scanner copier for linux system.
I currently have a Dell Photo 944 which I found out is a paperweight.
Any suggestions?

You could click the link at the top of this page that says HCL for hardware compatibility list. You should be able to get pretty much anything to print with CUPS. Scanning is a bit trickier.

Most of Epson, HP etc will work fine. Check compatibility

try looking for the models of the printers you are interested in on
www.openprinting.org

They have a really useful database of printers that work (or don't in Linux)

I have an HP Photosmart C6180 and it works on all my Linux machines (Fedora/Ubuntu/Mint).

I highly recommend it...this is all I had to do to install it...

Code:

user@mint$ sudo hp-install -i 192.168.1.200
Where 192.168.1.200 was the IP for my printer...

It was easy and it "just worked" :D

If you have a fairly current distro and something like the Gutenprint driver package, you can do a dummy install in the CUPS tool: http://localhost:631

....quick way to see if you have a driver.

As I've read on various forums, the common consensus seems to be anything HP. Personally, I have an HP Officejet J4550 All-in-One, that so far, has worked just fine on Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, and Debian (distros I've played with over the past year or so). With a $30.00 manufacturer's rebate at the time I bought it, it cost me $39.95 at Costco.
