Unhappy Linux compatability

I am using a old system with RAM of 256MB. I have loded Red Hat Linux.
But my internet connection seems to be slower in this as compared to windows-why?

Depends on what version of windows vs. what version of red hat.
I have a lower ram (256mb) running slackware13.1 but I don't use kde. I use xfce or fluxbox.
Perhaps trying a lighter desktop like xfce would help.
