linux commands

sir/ma'am,

i have a problem about the cut and paste commands in linux..i have two machines both with redhat linux 7.2
they have dfferent users inside. the question is how do i cut and paste a portion of the passwd file in one of the linux box
and paste it to the passwd file of the other linux box without using a gui based editor, i mean i will do it in text mode.
you could email me at allen@svtech.com.sg
any help please??

thanks,

allen

How do you communicate between the 2 boxes? One way would be to cut the text, paste it into a new file, transfer it over, and then paste the new file into the other box.

please don't ask for a private email, it's not really polite.

what are you trying to achieve? if you just want to clone users, then you won't achieve it with that, as you'll need the password shadow entries as well.

assuming you are using a network tho it all depends what facilities you have installed. ftp? ssh? nfs? smb? http?

Wouldn't it be just as fast as to create the users instead of going thru the trouble of cut & paste, transfer and copy.. etc ??
