Linux Cinnamon crashed during update, now stuck in fallback mode

Linux was updating, then crashed. Now, it starts in fallback mode with no apparent way out. I've just began to understand simple aspects of Linux and was hoping someone would have a series of commands I could put in to identify and fix this problem. The computer is unusable in its current state, so I will not be able to copy/paste command results. Sorry for the difficulty and thanks in advance.

Are you stuck in console or fallback mode? Fallback mode puts you in a low graphics desktop, while the console is all text.

So what are your options? Is there any way to get a screenshot?

Don't think so, no. It says it's in fallback mode though.

Are you on mobil phone?
If yes take a picture & upload it. Use the "Go Advanced" option to upload.

What are your options are you logged in?

It's asking for a login and password, and I've tried all the passwords associated with this computer and none work.

Are you on wired network?
If you are you can get network running with
Quote:
dhclient eth0
Then you can try completing upgrade
Quote:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
If your upgradesd were completed check /var/log/messages
Quote:
cat /var/log/messages |less
You can scroll thru log with arrow keys
