Linux Box to access a printer in Win2000

Opensourcerers,

How can I access a printer from my Linux Box which is connected to the Windows 2000?

I've tried to set it up in the printer configuration in X-windows but I can't find the printer...

thanx!

How are you linking the two machines? Over a LAN? have you got Samba up and running?

accessing a printer in Linux Box from a Win2K

Leonscape,

Do you mean I have to setup Samba in Win2K? I have no idea in doing it... please feed some info. because what I only knew is that you only have to set up Samba if you are a Windows Box trying to access a printer in a Linux Box (pls. correct me if I'm wrong)

Thanx

Well first off you need to set up networking on your windows box, as if you where going to network two windows machines.

Once you've got this set up, Samba is needed on the Linux box to connect to the Windows Machine. As windows uses SMB to allow other people access to its printer.

check out the Samba Website for more info.

Douglas Adams,

I've read on some articles that I only need to configure Samba if the Linux Box is where the printer is connected, but in my situation, Windows 2000 is where the printer is... I've tried to access the printer in "printconf-gui" run command but it can't see my Win2K box, instead it sees the other computers... please help me...

Thanks...

Do you have the smbfs module inserted in your kernel?

on a command line as root try

Code:

modprobe smbfs
