Linux Books
 

Hello.

I am very new to Linux, and I don`t want to be in this forum posting questions like: "How do I copy a file?" or something like that.

Could you recommend me some books to learn linux??

ANY O'Reilly book will be good. Try something like their "Linux in a Nutshell"...

I'm currently using Linux For Dummies (Quick Refence.) It's really easy to follow and tells you what everything does in plain english (unlike most books on Linux.) It teaches alot of command line too, which is really impotant. I highly recommend it. Check it out....BTW, it's only $15 and has more info than the book I exchanged that cost $30.....

I bought Linux Bible by Candace Leiden (not sure about the name spelling - don't have book in front of me). It's pretty big, but starts out with the basics and move on...

However, I find myself on these boards more often than using linux books...

That's why I ended up buying Linux for Dummies (quick reference.) It's small, compact and succinct. Everything is clearly explained for noobs and it's an excellent refresher and "quick reference" quide for more experienced users. I browsed through a dozen books, and all were just a bloated, 500+ page history of Linux. Trust me, check it out. You can't lose for $15....

Next time I'm in the local Borders Books, I'll check LFD out. They always have it there, I've just never really looked at it.

I have some other For Dummiies books, but I've decided that some of them waste alot of space with dumb jokes and stuff.

For example, the last for Dummies that I bought... well there is quite a bit of stuff like... "Ok, relax, take a deep breath... go to the kitchen and get a snack... this might be a little tricky....". I get kind of turned off by too much of that stuff.

I know some For Dummies books are better than others, they're all written by different people.

Anyway, I'll check it out!!

I don't think there's a single joke in this entire book. Just make sure to check out the "quick reference" one and not the regular Linux for Dummies. It's basically just straight commands with no fluff. The last book I bought must have had 100 pages dedicated to the history of Linux. I can't stand that.....

any book will b good to learn but some are bettter id recomend oreilly books like running linux
