Hello and welcome to the forum

I'm not sure which date would be considered the birthdate of Linux. August 25, 1991 was when Linus Torvalds first posted his second message on "comp.os.minix" and the first kernel was released on October 5th, 1991.

EDIT: I found this article which goes into more detail.

Welcome to LQ dmaharjan.

Edit: Although on Wikipedia, it says 5-Oct-1991 as the initial release date.

Yesterday, August 23rd, is apparently Internaut day, the 25th anniversary of Sir Tim Berners-Lee giving the World what's known as the World Wide Web.

Gaun yirsell Tim!

Play Bonny!

At LinuxCon, Linus said: "August 25th is probably the correct date to celebrate the anniversary of Linux. The first release wasn't public."
