linux and windows sharing

Hi,
Debian (the parent/base source of KUBUNTU as I understand it) has a folder on the destop that allows one to browse the network. By default you can see and use the shared folders in the Linux GUI/window environment. MS Window's cannot see or use the Debian Linux system by default. There is supposed to be a way to set it up, as I understand it; I've yet to get it to function though. The same goes for working either way in the shell environment. It's still beyond me. All the examples I've run across show somewhat modified configuration files, or the likes. The configuration command examples shown don't seem to work, to me.

Sincerely,

Gregory D. MELLOTT
