Linux and Solaris 9
Here's my situation.
I have a pc with 2 drives, Solaris 9 loaded on 1, I plan to install RedHat 9 on the other drive. I do not have linux experience, my knowledge is based on whatever I could find in this website or other forums and sites which gave rise to a lot more questions. Can I just go ahead and install Linux on the other drive without screwing up my Solaris install ? Or does Linux needs to be installed first. I plan to mount the linux drive on Solaris so I can use lxrun to run linux apps from Solaris.I read something about using ext2fs for mounting drives to Solaris but I didnt find any good documentation as to how to go about doing it. I recently downloaded the free distribution or RedHat 9. Somewhere in "how-to" of the site I read that - "ISO images are not saved to CD-ROM in the same way as regular data files" - do I need to do something before I burn the cds ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave :newbie: |
You don't have to do anything special when you burn your CD's - just make sure you use the ISO files as disk images and not just burn them as regular files. Most - probably all - CD burner programs have the option to create a CD from a disk image.
When it comes to dual booting Solaris and Linux, well I can't say I've done that. :) My bet is that it is perfectly possible to dual boot Solaris-x86 and Linux, but it is highly likely that the Linux installer will install a bootloader that will take care of booting the system. I am not sure if Redhat will automatically detect the Solaris installation and configure a dual boot automatically, chances are you will have to take care of that after installation. But, as always - Google is your friend, especially www.google.com/linux ! Håkan |
