Linux and Kernel version

Hi all,

I installed RH EL 3, how can I obtain the OS version, the update number and Kernel version?????

Try 'uname -a' at the prompt.

uname -r
ought to give you the kernel version and
cat /etc/redhat-release
may give you the OS version

Hi ,

That is ok, And what about the update number ???
the output of #uname -a :

Linux fayez 2.4.21-4.EL #1 Fri Oct 3 18:13:58 EDT 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

and for /etc/rdhat-release :

Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon)
